For a senior citizen the earring post is flemsy

The earrings are pretty but I need a stronger post with a separate back to secure the earing to my ear. I could not get the right earring on at all because post is too loose & doesn't stay still to put in ear lobe & I think it is too short. Can I return it & how would I do it?
